Martha Shafer was a 2018 Lillian’s List Featured Candidate. She is a life-long North Carolinian whose love for her home state runs as deep as her roots here. Born and raised in Charlotte, with family in small towns in the eastern part of the state, she has lived in Guilford County for more than 25 years. Her mother was a public school teacher, and her father a business owner. She attended public schools in Charlotte, then Furman University, earning a bachelor’s degree in history, and Duke University, where she earned a Masters in Health Administration. A retired hospital administrator, Martha understands our healthcare system and the needs of patients. She is a mother, wife, and daughter of two aging parents and has been involved civically her entire life, devoting her time to volunteering for local schools and her church.
