Alison Perry

Alison K. Perry is the Communications Director for NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.  A Durham, NC native, she has built a dynamic career at the intersection of communications, public service, and entrepreneurship.

She founded Cute Buttons Gift and Paper Boutique, a local stationery store in Morrisville, North Carolina in 2008. In 2020, when Covid hit, she changed her business model from a charming brick-and-mortar retail shop to a cozy, creative paper studio in north Raleigh, NC, where we've been ever since.

A writer by trade, she has a diverse work background. She lived in Washington DC in her 20s and 30s for the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Governors’ Association, DNC conventions, the DC Inaugural Committee and was dispatched to numerous political campaigns across the country. Before moving to Washington, she was a general assignment reporter for the News & Observer and continues to freelance periodically for the Animal Planet and Discovery Channel websites.

Her career eventually brought her to Raleigh, where she held the role of Communications Director for the Health and Wellness Trust Fund under then–Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue and worked in public and media relations at Capstrat.

Alison is a graduate of Hampton University and earned her Master's degree from Northwestern University. She’s also an active member of the Knightdale-Wake Forest Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, the Raleigh Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association, and her church - Body of Christ Church in Raleigh, where she has long supported youth programs.

Grounded in a strong sense of community and guided by a formidable work ethic, Alison finds balance through her husband, Reggie, her love for helping others, and her daily sweet-tooth fix.
