Lucy Russell is a proud lifelong North Carolinian. She earned her BA in Public Policy with highest honors from UNC-Chapel Hill. While at UNC, she had internships with the Public School Forum, North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus, Josh Stein for Attorney General, and North Carolina State Senator Erica Smith. She loves learning from leading women and spent a semester interning on Capitol Hill for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Democrat from New York.
After graduation, she was called to pursue her passion for public education and started her career in the classroom. Lucy has spent the last three years serving as a 2nd grade teacher in Warren and Wilson Counties. In 2022, she balanced teaching with managing the campaign for Lillian’s List endorsed candidate Valerie Jordan for State Senate. As she travelled the ten counties across rural NC, she fell more and more in love with the unique charm and potential of our region, affirming her commitment to making life better for struggling neighbors through policy change. In her community, she serves on the boards for the Wilson County Public Library system and for Seeds of Hope, a non-profit with a community garden and food pantry. Her goal is to continue pursuing a career in public service at the intersection of policymaking and education. She lives in Wilson with her fiance and their busy crew of three pets.
